Stray Dog Ruffles Doggy Dundee’s Fur

G’day Mates! Not feeling too proud even two days after this event. Guess it was was only a matter of time before the fur on our (well, ‘my’) back would get ‘roused about finding stray dogs.Muscular bulldog

Chase and I were out walking late on Friday night, and, on our way home, met a friend walking her Lab-X , Arrow; so instead of turning into our driveway like normal, the dynamic duo of Doggy Dundee kept on strolling along the (very) dark street with our friends – Be careful about which path you take in life.

We all finally turned back, but a half block from the Doggy Dundee driveway, we spot (in the darkness) a bicyclist doing crazy loops and crashes and tottering – all accented with grunts and (’nuff said) thanks to a wild stray bulldog whose running crazy off-leash.

This dog’s bats – running all over the biker, into the street and caused a car to swerve in the dark as the flash of white fur dashed across. There’s no collar so there’s nothing for us to grab onto as she’s leaping and ramming and jumping all over and around Arrow and Chase acting like a wild dog on drugs. I’m royalty upset coz I know this pooch belongs to one of my (more…)

Will Dog Massage Turn Chase Into A Limp Noodle?

Fredric, the owner of Chase’s “passed on” friend Rudy, was so taken by our honoring of Rudy’s passing on (Sept. 02, 2009 post) that he’s given Chase a gift certificate for a one-hour dog massage by a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT).

Chase lazing

I can see my parents right now sitting on a couch with Rudy in heaven laughing and laughing as good-natured tears run down their faces at the irony of people giving a dog massage (laughing especially because they know it’s just the kind of thing I’d love. )

My question is, “After a one hour relaxing massage, will Chase even be able to stand up?” I’ll keep you posted after she has her special treat! Chase sure deserves it after rounding up so many lost doggies and sharing her home with them for even short periods while their owners or a new situation for them is found.

Doggy Massage – Every Dog Has Their Day?

If you’ve ever indulged yourself in one, two, or a hundred human massages and felt the relief and joy it can bring, just imagine how our four-leggeds feel – Our dogs have been running, jumping, leaping, tugging, falling, tumbling,and/or curled up stationary for years; some have to sit out in cold and heat for long periods.

Dog experts attest that dog massages provide many benefits that can go beyond just muscular-skeletal issues, such as: easing muscle and joint ache, building a trust between dog and human, triggering cytokines (which brings down levels of a stress hormone), dispersing pain by signalling for the release of endorphines and also helps in healing (some injuries), improving blood and lymph circulation, and more. Though there are some conditions where a dog massage is not good (sometimes considered dangerous, just as with humans), when applicable, a dog massage is often prescribed for post-operative conditions and for many geriatric dogs.

Doesn’t your doggy deserve a treat-ment today?

Are Chase Krulikowski & Bo Obama Related?

G’day mates! I know Chase and I normally chat about stray dogs, lost dogs, shelter dogs, found dogs, and Chase (as well as doltish doggy owners), but we’re breaking with “standard operating procedure” for a bit of First Dog, Bo Obama fun. I’m wondering if Chase and Bo related – Afterall, they’re black and white and READ all over!

Bo

Bo

White House dog Bo is a pedigreed pooch who was returned by a previous owner and wagged (or wrangled?) his way into the White House; So, while I wouldn’t exactly categorize Bo as a “homeless dog” for those moments where his fate hung in the balance, I would say Bo is a dog destined for greatness, and a dog who knows how to get what he wants — And don’t we want that for all (errr, ‘lost’) dogs?

Chase and I enjoyed reading the White House Dog blog written by dogtime.com about the nation’s “First Dog” – Bo. The blog is entitled Obama’s Dog: Tails from the White House Lawn. We scrolled down and particularly appreciated the short 8/27/09 posting about Senator Kennedy (who introduced this Portugese Water Dog to the Prez family and gifted the pup their way).

Also, according to a September 1, 2009 CBS.com news story (entitled “Bo Obama’s Busy White House Dog Days,” ) among many other events, “He (Bo) won a Teen Choice Award for celebrity pet, besting Adam Sandler’s bulldog Matzo Ball and Ashton Kutcher’s Chihuahua Vida Blue, among other candidates. Obama introduced him as the “’star of the family” at a luau on the South Lawn.” This White House dog poochy must be “hot” to get that kind of praise and get away with things like this: Bo chews magazines, the President’s sneakers, and jogs in the evening with the Prez, who picks up the First Dog’s poop in sight of the well-lit, majestic White House in the background (“It’s quite a moment,” Barack tells the press).

And if you’re more the scientific inquiry type, you might want to know what “experts” mean when they say Bo Obama has “mutant genes” by checking the ABC News Medical Unit report.

Chase and Bo to Meet?

Chase is (patiently) awaiting her invitation to the White House to meet Bo, her soon-to-be best friend. First dog Bo Obama has his own mailbox at the White House (sorry, no email account), so why not write to Bo (postcards are good and inexpensive) and urge the First Dog to extend an invitation for a private luncheon and playtime together at the White House. There’s lots of issues facing dogs nationwide that Chase really wants to discuss with Bo. Address your letters/postcards to: Bo Obama, White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., Washington, D.C. 20500.  Bo can contact Chase at info@doggydundee.com or write a snail mail letter to Chase Krulikowski (“Hey, Bo pal”), P.O. Box 865, Talent, OR 97540.

Rudy - Champ Dog Friends Big Heart

G’day, Mates! A few weeks ago Doggy Dundee announced that a couple of Chase’s neighborhood dog friends had recently passed on. We’d like to tell you a bit about schipperke Rudy.

Rudy Vision

Rudy Vision

Rudy was 10 years old when Carol and Fredric Berger of Talent, Oregon adopted Rudy from the Jackson County Animal Shelter several years ago. (Rudy had been a frequent “visitor” there as a stray dog, but his negligent owner lost him one too many times and Rudy was finally removed (saved?) from that environment and placed in the county’s care, so this stray dog could have a happy, secure home at last.

Rudy – Much Loved & Loving Therapy Dog

Both the Bergers are therapists, so… you guessed it – -Rudy easily passed his Therapy Dog Exam, and worked at the local VA every Wednesday since then.  The veterans there loved him.  Rudy also worked at the psych program in Medford, where the residents there loved him, as well.  Fredric took Rudy to the Ashland Dog Park (where Rudy ran very fast there off leash), and brought him to the Downtowne Coffee Shoppe in Talent daily.  Rudy was loved everywhere!  For some people, especially the vets, it was the first time they had reached out to softly touch another being in many years.  Rudy was sweet and calm, and he was able to share that feeling with anybody that touched him.  When any person pet Rudy, it was Rudy that touched the person.

Winner of Sweetest Small Dog Honor

In July 2009, Rudy was diagnosed with cancer. Just weeks before making the final decision to help Rudy cross gently, Rudy won Honorable Mention as “Sweetest Small Dog” (a category judges invented for him on the spot) at the Talent Coffee Shoppe’s annual Cutest Small Dog Contest.

Rudy, you did a good job, mate! We love ya…
